Two layers of fabric printed in alternating solid and sheer stripes. Line the sheer bands up and you get a soft, filtered daylight with the view intact; offset them and the solids close together for privacy. It is the shade people stop and play with.

Where it doesn't

When it isn't

A bathroom with a shower in it. The sheer bands hold steam and mark, and they do not recover
The room has to be genuinely dark. Even the blackout fabrics pass a line of light where the bands meet, so a blackout roller with side channels is the honest answer and we will say so
You want the glass completely clear when it is up. Zebra never stacks as tight as a roller

Before you order

The choices that change the result

Two or three decisions do most of the work on this product, and they are all easier to make at the window than afterwards. This is what we talk about at the measure.

It has three positions, not two
Bands aligned is the open one: daylight and the view. Bands offset is closed: the solids meet and the room is private. The third is the one people actually live with, which is somewhere in between, and it is worth setting the shade at that height once at the install and seeing whether the room likes it.
Blackout zebra is not blackout
A blackout zebra fabric stops light through the solid bands, but the bands are stitched to a sheer and light comes through the join. It is a good dark, not a true dark. If a room has to be black at ten in the morning, we would rather sell you a roller.
What the headrail does
The bare cassette is the cheapest and the most visible. A fabric-wrapped headrail costs a little more and makes the whole thing read as one object instead of a shade under a box, which matters most on a wide window or a run of them where the headrail is a long horizontal line across the room.

Width	About 118in on one shade. Wider than that is two shades on a shared headrail, set so the join reads as a seam rather than a gap.
Light control	Open view through to closed privacy on one shade, with blackout fabrics available for bedrooms
Headrail	Bare cassette, capped in white, grey or black, or wrapped in the shade's own fabric
Controls	Chain, cordless, or motorised. Cordless is the usual answer where a child can reach it
Mounting	Inside the recess, outside over the trim, on the ceiling, or on the wall
